Hoodia Caution: What To Know Before You Buy Hoodia

As a result the market has been flooded with 'Hoodia Gordonii' pills that are not as effective as the real stuff.

There have been reports of companies not putting the stated amount in their pills, using a 'plant substitute' (not the real thing) or even filling their pills with silica, leaves, sawdust and other filler products that have none of the powerful Hoodia ingredients in them.

Several counterfeit products jumping onto the market are actually made with other hoodia varieties (not gordonii) coming from Mexico and China.

What Can You Do?

First of all, ONLY buy Hoodia that comes from South Africa.

Second, make sure to look for a document called the C.I.T.E.S. Certificate (The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) on the Hoodia manufacturers website. Since the Hoodia plant is a protected plant species it can only be sold to an exporter who has this certificate.

This is a must - we've read some so-called Hoodia websites saying the C.I.T.E.S Certificate is really not necessary (of course they don't really have one or they offer one that is impossible to read). This is absolutely not true. Make sure your Hoodia manufacture displays the C.I.T.E.S certificate on their website.

Thirdly, Look for a company that displays a current Alchemists Lab report which runs HPLS, TLC and Micropscopy tests that prove whether the Hoodia is genuine or not.

And lastly, although this isn't necessary - it's nice to know that the product has been tested by an independent third party and has been found to indeed contain the right amount of pure Hoodia specified on the bottle.
